Gun Ownership at All-Time High, New FBI Report Shows
Violent Crime at a 35-Year Low, Murder at a 43-Year Low

Over the last two decades, many “gun control” laws have been eliminated or made less restrictive at the federal, state, and local levels. Numbers of privately-owned guns and Right-to-Carry states have risen to all-time highs. Every step of the way, “gun control” groups have predicted violent crime would increase. Instead, the nation’s violent crime rate has been declining since 1991, and in 2008 fell to a 35-year low. In the same period, the nation’s murder rate fell to a 43-year low.

Less “Gun Control”: The Brady Act’s handgun waiting period expired in 1998, in favor of the NRA-supported National Instant Check System. Some states thereafter eliminated waiting periods or purchase permit requirements. The federal “assault weapon” ban expired in 2004. Since 1987, 30 states have eliminated prohibitory or restrictive carry laws, in favor of Right-to-Carry (RTC) laws; there are now 40 RTC states, an all-time high. All states have hunter protection laws, 48 have range protection laws, 48 prohibit local jurisdictions from imposing gun laws more restrictive than state law, 44 protect the right to arms in their constitutions, and Congress and 33 states have prohibited frivolous lawsuits against the firearm industry.1 Studies by or for Congress, the Congressional Research Service, the Library of Congress, the National Institute of Justice, the National Academy of Sciences, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have found no evidence that “gun control” reduces crime.2

More Guns: There are 250+ million privately-owned firearms in the United States.3 The number of guns typically rises by about 4.5 million every year,4 though between 2007-2008, firearm transactions cleared by the National Criminal Instant Background Check rose 14 percent.5

Less Violent Crime: Since 1991, the nation’s violent crime rate has decreased 40 percent (murder, 45 percent; rape, 31 percent; robbery, 47 percent; and aggravated assault, 37 percent. From 2007-2008, the violent crime rate decreased 3 percent (murder, 5 percent; rape, 2 percent; robbery, 2 percent; and aggravated assault, 3 percent.) States with Right-to-Carry laws have lower violent crime rates, on average, compared to the rest of the country: total violent crime by 31 percent, murder, 39 percent; robbery, 55 percent; and aggravated assault, 19 percent. States that have the most restrictive gun control laws tend to have the highest ratios of robberies (confrontational violent crimes) to non-confrontational property crimes. 6

More Guns, Less Crime in '09

Americans went on binges buying guns and ammunition in early 2009, worried that a radical leftist president and Democrat-dominated Congress would violate their Second-Amendment rights to keep and bear arms. The effects? Less murder, robbery, rape, and property crime, according to an FBI report released Monday. This gives the young president and Democrat Congress at least one proud but unintended accomplishment for which they'll never claim credit.

Indeed, gun buyers were out in droves in late 2008 and early 2009. While it's easy to infer that increased gun ownership figures align precisely with the drop in crime in the same calendar period, you won't see that headline in the New York Times, despite their penchant for such inferences about increases in crime coinciding with increasing "guns on the street."

The gun-buying started shortly before, and then took off after, Obama's election. The Toronto Star reported a 15% increase of 108,000 more FBI background checks in October 2008 than during the same month in 2007. People were already anticipating the dire consequences of an Obama victory. Then, in November 2008, the number of FBI background checks on applicants buying guns spiked 42% from the previous year. The FBI performed 12.7 million background checks in 2008, compared to 11.2 million in 2007, a 13% increase.

More evidence of rampant gun-buying loads up in the states. Through June 2009, the Texas Department of Public Safety received a monthly average of 12,700 applications for concealed handgun licenses, up 46% from the average in 2007. Even the New York Times noted how gun sales were up in 2009; in a June story, it focused on its less sophisticated neighbors in New Jersey. Even in liberal Massachusetts, gun permits surged 15% over the last two years (after falling several years before that).

While background checks and applications for concealed handgun licenses don't directly equate to the number of new guns on the street -- some applicants are refused, and applications can include multiple guns at the same time of purchase -- the numbers do indicate that more law-abiding Americans had new or enhanced arms in the first six months of 2009. Most criminals don't subject themselves to background checks.

(This is a good place to note that "new guns on the street" is just a liberal scare cliché we should not carelessly adopt. These statistics indicate the real dynamic: gun purchases and concealed licenses acquisitions are made predominantly by law-abiding citizens taking their guns home with them from the store, for self-defense, hunting, and target-shooting purposes.)

But shouldn't more guns equate to more murders and other violent crime? Only if you live in liberal never-never land.

That certainly has not been the case in early 2009. Guns are purchased so that good people can protect themselves against bad people. And moreover, self-protection is a basic human right, despite the fact that our new wise Latina Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor couldn't bring herself to acknowledge that this summer.

The newspapers west of the Hudson River are chock full of stories in which law-abiding citizens protected themselves by using guns. And these are just the incidents that are reported. The Armed Citizen blog does a great job of capturing these stories in their raw form, and every thinking American needs to make his own inferences about the value of guns in these situations: They prevent people from becoming statistics. Go through the news reports compiled on the Armed Citizen blog and make your own count of people who refused to become statistics.

For instance, in May, eleven students in Atlanta avoided becoming murder statistics thanks to the bravery of one among them who had a gun in his backpack. He used it to kill one robber and injure another. Chillingly, the news reports describe how the robbers were counting their bullets to make sure they had enough to kill their victims. One of the robbers was about to rape a woman as well. That's at least thirteen fewer violent crimes (murder, rape, robbery) that did not need to be included in the FBI's crime report for the first half of 2009.

As 2009 winds down, the Democratic Party deserves an off-handed "thank you" for inspiring more law-abiding citizens to purchase weapons and protect themselves from bad people, at least in the first half of the year.

But even while giving them that tribute, it's important to reflect that the only direct result of their gun control efforts in the past -- the Clinton administration's regulation forbidding U.S. military personnel from carrying personal firearms -- resulted in the deaths of thirteen people and an unborn infant in Fort Hood.

Sadly, those deaths will add to an increase in the second half of 2009's statistics -- and renewed calls for gun control legislation, to be sure...

Wayne LaPierre stated, "Repealing the machine gun amendment...will be
a high priority," and promised the NRA's members that the organization
would "actively work toward the repeal of the recent machine gun ban
and will take all necessary steps to educate the public on the
sporting uses and legal ownership of automatic firearms."

I see no continuing efforts by Wayne and or the NRA challenging the
constitutionality or otherwise legality of this amendment...

Moreover, applicable public education aforesaid...

The liberal left does not want the American people to know "More Guns Equals Less Crime"

Violent crime hit an all-time high in 1991. Since then, "gun control" laws have been rolled back, the number of privately-owned guns has risen to an all-time high, and violent crime has dropped to a 30-year low.

More Guns. The number of privately-owned guns in the U.S. is at an all-time high. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATFE) estimates there were about 215 million guns in 1999 (1); the National Academy of Sciences puts the 1999 figure at 258 million(2). The number of new guns each year averages about 4.5 million (about 2%).(3) According to the Bureau of Justice Statistics, there were 60.4 million approved (new and used) NICS firearm transactions from 1994-2004.(4) The FBI reports that there were 61.6 million approved NICS transactions from Nov. 30, 1998 through the end of 2005, and that the annual number of transactions increased 2.4% between 2003-2004 and 3.1% between 2004-2005.(5)

More Gun Owners. The number of gun owners is also at an all-time high. The U.S. population is at an all-time high (296 million), and rises about 1% annually,(6) and numerous surveys over the last 40+ years have found that almost half of all households have at least one gun owner.(7) Some surveys since the late 1990s have indicated a smaller incidence of gun ownership,(8) probably because of some respondents’ concerns about "gun control," perhaps a residual effect of the anti-gun policies of the Clinton Administration.

More Right-to-Carry. The number of RTC states is at an all-time high, up from 10 in 1987 to 40 today.(9) In 2005, states with RTC laws, compared to the rest of the country, had lower violent crime rates on average: total violent crime lower by 22%, murder by 30%, robbery by 46%, and aggravated assault by 12%.(10)

Less "Gun Control." Violent crime has declined while many "gun control" laws have been eliminated or made less restrictive. Many states have eliminated prohibitory or restrictive carry laws, in favor of Right-to-Carry laws. The federal Brady Act’s waiting period on handgun sales expired in 1998, in favor of the NRA-supported National Instant Check, and some states concurrently or thereafter eliminated waiting periods or purchase permit requirements. The federal "assault weapon" ban expired in 2004. All states have hunter protection laws, 46 have range protection laws, 46 prohibit local jurisdictions from imposing gun laws more restrictive than state law, 44 protect the right to arms in their constitutions, and Congress and 33 states have prohibited frivolous lawsuits against the firearm industry.(11)

Less Crime. The FBI reports that the nation’s total violent crime rate declined every year between 1991-2004, to a 30-year low in 2004, and estimates that it rose 1% in 2005.(12) (By comparison, the most recent Bureau of Justice Statistics crime victim survey found that "at the national level crime rates remain stabilized at the lowest level experienced since 1973," when the first such survey was conducted.(14))

According to the FBI, in 2005 the nation’s violent crime rates were significantly lower than they were in 1991, when the violent crime rate hit an all-time high. In 2005, total violent crime was lower by 38%, murder by 43%, rape by 25%, robbery by 48%, and aggravated assault by 33%. During 2004-2005, total violent crime was lower than anytime since 1976. For the last seven years, the murder rate (between 5.5 and 5.7 per 100,000 annually) has been lower than anytime since 1965.(13) Studies by and/or for Congress, the Congressional Research Service, the Library of Congress, the National Institute of Justice, the National Academy of Sciences, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have found no evidence that "gun control" reduces crime.(15)

Nation Wide Good Samaritan Gun Owner Protection Law

I propose a national Good Samaritan gun owner protection law, which prevents a gun owner from being terminated from his place of employment or being prosecuted for using a weapon such as a firearm to defend him/herself or another from great bodily harm. In fact much as it is the duty of a doctor, nurse etc to provide emergency assistance to someone in need without fear of repercussion.

Moreover, we when educate our friends, family, neighbors, peers and fellow gun owners of the unconstitutionality of the FOPA/NFA of 1986...
Additionally, when we ask them to also write their representatives in Washington and the Media and demand this 2nd amendment infringement be amended, repealed etc.

We all know too many Americans are A.D.D. when it comes to the news; they only pay attention to what they heard today or this week; America needs to be reminded that the FOPA/NFA of 1986 has to be Amended!

Please oppose Carolyn McCarthy's anti-gun bill, H.R. 2640

Currently, anti-gun zealot Chuck Schumer is trying to get "unanimous
consent" to steamroll the Senate in connection with Carolyn McCarthy's anti-gun bill, H.R. 2640.

If this bill is passed, an American would be barred from owning guns
if:

* He is a U.S. veteran suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder;
or

* As a kid, he was diagnosed with ADHD in connection with the IDEA
program.

Not to mention the fact that an ailing grandfather could have his
entire gun collection seized, based only on a diagnosis of
Alzheimer's from a Medicare home health provider (and there goes the
family inheritance).

Gun owners don't support this legislation, better known as the
Veterans Disarmament Act. The Military Order of the Purple Heart is
opposed to it, having stated on June 18 of this year, that "For the

I think daily education of our peers in the gun community, about the FOPA/NFA 2nd Amendment infringements, is a great suggestion as word of mouth is generally the fastest way to get a particular topic or concern around.

I also still believe that if all of us card carrying members of the NRA, GOA, SAF and CCW holders start getting back on their butt about it, then perhaps we can build a fire under their butt-in-ski’s and build some momentum towards this much needed amendment...

Additionally, writing, emailing, faxing and telephoning our representatives in Washington is always a good idea...
Further, we have the presidential elections coming up, campaigning well underway and many of our other representatives are coming up for election/re-election in the next one-two years...

We need to let them know that there are more issues then the war on terror and securing our borders, although I support both; but not at the expense of continued disregard for the 2nd amendment and the FOPA/NFA of 1986 that needs amended...
They are all equally as important...

The best time to get something changed is when somebody is up for election/re-election that already carries some weight in Washington and or the Media, Public Opinion…

Without this amendment, all others are meaningless. This amendment is a guarantee to the people of the United States of America that the right to keep and bear arms can not, shall not, nor will not be infringed upon.

To infringe upon - by definition - is the attempt to limit the right of:

. legal or moral entitlement to do - or refrain from doing - some thing;
. legal or moral entitlement to obtain - or refrain from obtaining - an action, thing or recognition in civil society. In the Second Amendment, the entitlement is the right to the action(s) of keeping and bearing a thing called arms by the people.

What this means is, the people, who in times of need may form a militia, have the inalienable right to keep and bear arms without fear of such right being vacated. In order to be an effective militia - an integral part of a free society - the people should be armed in equal or greater proportion than any potential threat - foreign or domestic - and trained to use such armament. Additionally, the un-infringed right of the people to keep and bear arms is the most powerful deterrent to tyranny.

The part of the FOPA of 1986 that prevents civilian manufacture and ownership of Class III weapons manufactured since the date of the act's enactment was a last minute liberal entry that was unconstitutional and is what we need amended, repealed etc., the rest of it is pretty good and is what we need to emphasize when writing our representatives in Washington and the Media. Moreover, we when educate our friends, family, neighbors, peers and fellow gun owners of the unconstitutionality of the FOPA/NFA of 1986...
Additionally, when we ask them to also write their representatives in Washington and the Media and demand this 2nd amendment infringement be amended, repealed etc.

The government does not have power over us, but that which we give them...

I think what most gun owners, that are also hopefully registered voters that vote as well do not realize is the last minute entry onto the 1986 FOPA that prevents civilian manufacture and purchase of Class III Weapons made after effective date is an liberal assault on all gun owners and a stepping stone to total gun confiscation!
Moreover, a blatant, deliberate constitutional infringement of the 2nd Amendment…

Just because you think you may not ever be interested in purchasing a class III weapon does not mean you should fail to do your duty as a gun owner and an American citizen to support the 2nd amendment and oppose any and all infringements thereof…

There are literally millions of gun owners in the U.S., which is why politicians either fear or respect the NRA, GOA and most organized gun owner groups…

No other demographic in the U.S. has a greater ability to influence policy then the law abiding gun owner groups in America…

This shameful amendment to the 1986 FOPA got through because the majority of gun owners did not know about it or did not step up to the plate because they figured if it does not affect me and my Glock, who cares…

paper), the ban on interstate sales of long guns (which, then as
now, are infrequently used in crime); and limited the surprise
inspections of licensed gun dealers' premises to just once a year.
It also made it a federal offense, whether a Federally licensed
firearms dealer or not, to transfer or sell a gun to any individual
who is prohibited by the GCA '68 from owning guns, such as a felon.
In a peculiar procedural move, the House-passed version of this
NRA-backed legislation contained a ban on the possession and transfer
of new machine guns by civilians, which became effective when President
Reagan signed the Act into law, May 19, 1986. Machine guns which
were manufactured prior to that date are regulated under the National
Firearms Act, but those manufactured after the ban cannot be sold
even to civilians who are already licensed to own machine guns.
The Senate approved the machine gun ban language of the House bill
without a roll call vote, though their original bill did not include
the ban amendment added in the House and sponsored by U.S. Rep. William
J. Hughes (D - N.J.). (The parliamentary shenanigans surrounding this
are quite strange, and are found in Congressional Record v.132 p.H1751
and p.S5358.) Essentially, at what was literally the last minute, the
acting chairman of the Committee of the Whole in the then-Democrat-run
House, New York congressman Charles Rangell, declared in a simple voice
vote that Rep. Hughes' "poison pill" amendment had been adopted, and
that the "ayes" had it. This ban has later been found unconstitutional
in the case of_U.S. v. Rock Island Armory_(Federal Supplement, v.773
p.117) but the decision was not appealed to the Supreme Court.

I seriously doubt Ronald Reagan would have signed the FOPA of 1986 if he had known about this last minute liberal underhandedness...

Please initiate legislation to amend the Firearms Owners Protection Act of 1986

Amending the Firearms Owners Protection Act of 1986 to once again allow
civilian manufacture and ownership of Class III weapons manufactured since
the date of the act's enactment will encourage American ingenuity in arms
development, and help us more strongly fight the war on terror. Criminals
and terrorists don't jump through all these hoops - give us more
ammunition to fight with!

Moreover, it will put an end to the gouging of consumers purchasing those
manufactured prior to the enactment date.

Additionally it will put an end to a blatant infringement of every
law-abiding American Citizens 2nd Amendment right.

Further, this last minute liberal entry onto the FOPA Act of 1986 does
nothing more then create a market for illegal machine guns for the
criminal element in this country much as the prohibition of alcohol once
did.

The statistics of the FBI and BATF clearly show that crime committed by
the owners of legally obtained class III weapons is nearly infinitesimal
both before and after the FOPA of 1986.

Outrage over unjustly accused Green Berets

As a USMC Veteran being familiar with the UCMJ and the rules of engagement and a U.S. Born American citizen in my opinion, Green Beret Master Sgt. Troy Anderson followed orders when Capt. Dave Staffel gave him the order to kill Nawab Buntangyar a known terrorist whom had organized suicide and roadside bomb attacks, on civilian and military targets.

To even accuse these two heroes’ of the murder of this known terrorist is un-patriotic and damaging to the moral of our troops.
These actions by General Frank H. Kearney are deplorable and disgrace us all as Americans. Further, it appears that he received his third star for running these true patriots up the flagpole and besmirching their good names and putting their family through undue duress.

I implore you to aid in putting an end to this disgrace and give these two heroes’ and their families
the recognition and the thanks of our country that they so justly deserve in a very public manner.

Why we need to abolish the Federal Gun Free School Zones Act

Federal Gun Free School Zones Act (18 US Code sect. 922(q)(1)(A)), which specifies, "It shall be unlawful for any individual knowingly to possess a firearm... at a place that the individual knows... is a school zone."

Here is a story about a shooting that occurred at a school before
Virginia Tech and a teacher who broke the law by going to his vehicle getting his gun and putting an end to the situation...

The assistant principal of a high school in Pearl, Mississippi, broke the law.
He kept a .45 in his car parked on the school grounds. When a deranged student opened fire, Joel Myrick ran for his gun. Two students were killed because Myrick had to retrieve his gun from his car instead of his holster. But the .45 eventually prevailed, and Myrick stopped the massacre long before police arrived on the scene. God only knows how many lives he saved.
But assistant principal Joel Myrick wasn’t awarded any medals.
Of the several hundred newspaper and television stories about the incident,
only a few even mentioned his name.
Almost none revealed the fact that he used a gun to stop the killings.

Obviously, this is yet another argument for arming our teachers and allowing teachers and responsible, CCW trained adults carry on any public/private school campuses and elsewhere...

If this had been put in place it clearly would have been a different story at Virgina Tech...
We had a decade to rectify the superfluous Federal Gun Free School Zones Act and putting a nationwide preemption law in effect to prevent state, county, city and other municipalities from putting any other such frivolous laws on the books...

Joel Myrick is a hero. In 1997 this Mississippi high school principal prevented a psychotic teenager from killing students at Pearl Junior High, potentially saving numerous lives and immeasurable grief.

But according to Federal law, Principal Joel Myrick is a criminal.

You see, in order to stop the deranged teen (who had opened fire at a high school) from leaving the high school to continue his killing spree at the junior high, Myrick retrieved a handgun from his truck, loaded it, and held it on the youth until authorities could arrive. "I've always kept a gun in the truck just in case something like this ever happened," Myrick said...

Recent Study On Media Bias Shows Need For Gun Owners To Speak Out: The Culture and Media Institute (CMI) recently released a report entitled "The Media Assault on the Second Amendment." Its findings will not surprise you.

According to the study, in the first seven months of 2007, the three major networks ran some 650 stories on firearm-related homicides, yet only two covering the use of guns for self-defense. Considering guns are used three to five times more often for self-defense than to commit a crime, this disproportion is staggering.

CMI went on to report:

"The media first broached the urban crime wave immediately following a March 9 court decision, Parker v. District of Columbia, which struck down D.C.'s handgun ban. ABC, NBC, CNN, the New York Times, the Washington Post and USA Today each ran at least one story on the crime wave between March 9 and March 29.

The media had a field day during the week after the Virginia Tech campus shootings on April 16. The major broadcast networks ran nearly 30 stories promoting gun control, with another 24 from CNN, nine in the New York Times and 20 in the Washington Post. The message was delivered with machine-gun regularity: lack of gun control led to the massacre, so more gun laws might prevent another massacre.

Armen Keteyian of CBS Evening News quoted the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence and noted that Virginia Tech--which had recently imposed a total gun ban on campus—[f]ought Virginia's 'hunting culture' in a desperate effort to ‘safeguard the student population.’”

The Brady Center’s Peter Hamm said he found the report “chilling,” commenting that, "Reducing coverage of a problem won't make that problem go away”, and that using firearms for self-defense "doesn't happen nearly as often" as gun violence in this country.

In perhaps the best demonstration of hypocrisy, Hamm lamented that the anti-gun contingent is frustrated by the media’s lack of coverage of gun violence! How one who advocates gun bans can be upset when the media reports on virtually every criminal misuse of a gun, yet says nary a word when a law-abiding citizen uses a gun for self-defense, is mind boggling.
This goes to show why it is so important that pro-gun advocates continuously monitor the media for anti-gun bias and work to speak out when they see it. For more information on effectively communicating with the media:

History of Liberals and Conservatives

For those that don't know about history...
Here is a condensed version...

Humans originally existed as members of small bands of nomadic hunters/gatherers. They lived on deer in the mountains during the summer and would go to the coast and live on fish and lobster in the winter.

The two most important events in all of history were the invention of beer and the invention of the wheel. The wheel was invented to get man to the beer. These were the foundation of modern civilization and together were the catalyst for the splitting of humanity into two distinct subgroups:

1. Liberals
2. Conservatives

Once beer was discovered, it required grain and that was the beginning of agriculture. Neither the glass bottle nor aluminum can were invented yet, so while our early humans were sitting around waiting for them to be invented, they just stayed close to the brewery.

That's how villages were formed.

Some men spent their days tracking and killing animals to B-B-Q at night while they were drinking beer. This was the beginning of what is known as the Conservative movement.

Other men who were weaker and less skilled at hunting learned to live off the conservatives by showing up for the nightly B-B-Q's and doing the sewing, fetching, and hair dressing. This was the beginning of the Liberal movement.

Some of these liberal men eventually evolved into women. The rest became known as girlie-men or wussies. Some noteworthy liberal achievements include the domestication of cats, the invention of group therapy, group hugs, and the concept of voting to decide how to divide the meat and beer that conservatives provided.

Over the years Conservatives came to be symbolized by the largest, most powerful land animal on earth; the elephant.

Liberals are symbolized by the jackass.

A few modern liberals like Mexican light beer (with lime added), but most prefer a chilled glass of Sauvignon Blanc,with passion fruit and kiwi aromas which are marked by grassy notes, then rounded out on the mid-palate by peach flavors. Crisp and refreshing, with a hint of chalky minerals on the finish; or Perrier bottled water. They eat raw fish but dislike beef. Sushi, tofu, and French food are standard liberal fare.

Another interesting evolutionary side note: most of their women have higher testosterone levels than their men. Most social workers, personal injury attorneys, Ivy League professors, journalists, dreamers in Hollywood and group therapists are liberals. Liberals invented the designated-hitter rule because it wasn't fair to make the pitcher also bat.

Conservatives drink Sam Adams, Harpoon IPA or Yuengling Lager. They eat red meat and still provide for their women. Conservatives are big-game hunters, rodeo cowboys, lumberjacks, construction workers, firemen, medical doctors, police officers, corporate executives, athletes, Marines, and generally anyone who works productively.

Conservatives who own companies hire other conservatives who want to work for a living.

As a fellow citizen, I am writing you about a very disconcerting 2nd amendment infringement by the ATF and USPS in regards to shipment of handguns via the United States Postal Service.

A nonlicensee may not transfer a firearm to a non-licensed resident of another State. A nonlicensee may mail a shotgun or rifle to a resident of his or her own State or to a licensee in any State. The Postal Service recommends that long guns be sent by registered mail and that no marking of any kind which would indicate the nature of the contents be placed on the outside of any parcel containing firearms. Handguns are not mailable. A common or contract carrier must be used to ship a handgun.

(B8) May a nonlicensee ship a firearm by common or contract carrier?

A nonlicensee may ship a firearm by a common or contract carrier to a resident of his or her own State or to a licensee in any State. A common or contract carrier must be used to ship a handgun. In addition, Federal law requires that the carrier be notified that the shipment contains a firearm and prohibits common or contract carriers from requiring or causing any label to be placed on any package indicating that it contains a firearm.

What I interpret this to mean and licensed FFL holders have advised me in my state of residency that what I ascertain is correct to wit:

That if I purchase a handgun from a owner out of my state of residency; that said owner may not use the United States Postal Service to mail said handgun to my choice of licensed FFL holders in my state of residency. Moreover, said owner may only ship via a common carrier or contract carrier such as UPS or via a licensed FFL holder in said sellers state of residency, whom can ship via the United States Postal Service.

The impact of this and a clear 2nd amendment infringement should be quite clear; wherefore:
In order for a law abiding citizen to purchase a handgun from out of his/her state of residency said purchaser must either pay nearly double the shipping costs to ship said handgun via non-USPS provider or again pay nearly double or greater then double the shipping costs to have a FFL dealer in his/her state of residency ship said item via the United States Postal Service or otherwise.

I can somewhat agree that in shipping of any newly purchased firearm via the United States Postal Service, the recipient should be a FFL holder; in order to facilitate the initial NICS Background check. Although, I strongly am opposed to imposing undue and excessive shipping costs, because the United States Postal Service (USPS) and the BATF and related federal statues has a superfluous regulation preventing a private law-abiding citizen that is not a FFL holder from shipping a handgun to a FFL holder via the United States Postal Service, the most economical way to do so.

I am also strongly opposed to firearms purchasers and or dealers having to pay for a NICS Background check on top of the cost of any firearm. I feel it is a necessary check, but it should not be something that the end user or dealer should have to burden, such superfluous tariffs infringe upon the ability of law-abiding citizens with limited means to be able to purchase a firearm for self-defense, hunting or other permissible 2nd amendment use.

I implore you to do what is in your power to support the abolishment of said 2nd amendment infringements by writing the media and your representatives.

Two Bush Promises Deserve and Need Your All-Out Support

The two key enforcement measures that must be implemented quickly and fully are these:

# POWERFUL PROMISE NO. 1: An aggressive "no-match letter" effort notifying larger employers about all their employees whose Social Security numbers do not currently match federal records.

Every business with 10 or more of the "no-match" employees would be pressured to move any illegal aliens out of their jobs.

This is not about new hires. It is policing a much larger population. It is about scrutinizing the entire workforce of people hired over the last decades by medium-to-large firms.

In the past, employers getting the no-match letters could throw them in the trash and let their "no-match" employees continue on the job without fear of reprisal from the government.

But Bush officials were emphatic Friday that any time a company is perused in the future by the feds, that company's failure to have fired illegal aliens identified by no-match letters will be strong evidence for heavy financial and even criminal penalties.

Most business analysts feel that threat will be enough to cause most businesses to start firing any workers identified as illegal aliens.

# POWERFUL PROMISE NO. 2: A requirement that all companies doing business with the federal government participate in the electronic verification system -- now called E-VERIFY -- for all their new hires.

Our allies in Congress have been aggressively trying to get this added to virtually every bill that has gone through this summer. And they have had some success. They have wanted to mandate that at least companies getting taxpayer businesses should be required to avoid illegal foreign workers.

NumbersUSA's staff have been pushing our contacts inside the Administration for some time to go ahead and do this because it doesn't require congressional action.

Now the Administration is taking this great idea and running with it. We are very pleased.

Hundreds of thousands of companies doing business with the federal government will have to start using E-VERIFY (formerly known as Basic Pilot).

That is the system we have advocated for years to be mandatory for every new hire by every business and organization in America. Until Congress steps up to the plate and legislates mandatory verification, this Administration action forcing all federal contractors to use it is a mighty good interim step.
Within months, large sectors of the American economy will be off-limits for illegal foreign workers. A significant minority of them will find lower-paying jobs in the underground economy. But most will be faced with a decision about whether it is worth their continuing to remain in a United States that no longer provides enough rewards for breaking immigration laws.

What Is Bush Thinking?

We at NumbersUSA spent all day Friday answering questions from radio, TV and newspapers about what to think about the Bush Administration's announcements about a lot of new enforcement against illegal immigration.

Watching the press conference Friday was enough to convince us that the Bush Administration is hoping that all its new tough enforcement will cause businesses and illegal-alien advocates to fight much harder to push an amnesty through Congress, perhaps later this fall.

The editors of the Washington Post today said they believe that is what the Administration is doing. The Post saluted Pres. Bush for proposing a lot of enforcement that will make life more miserable for illegal aliens and businesses so that Congress will finally understand that mass legalization is necessary.

Our job will be (a) to ensure the enforcement really makes the outlaw businesses and foreign workers that miserable, and (b) to make sure that Congress can see that removing illegal workers from the workforce is a good thing that reduces public costs and moves more Americans into productive lives.

All of us must continually remind Congress -- and the media when they are willing to listen -- that we have 23 million "less-educated" American working-age adults who do NOT have a job.

Even if every one of the estimated 7 million foreign workers lost their job in the next year, there should be plenty of Americans from among those non-employed 23 million to take the places of the illegals and keep the economy humming.

Our belief has always been that once a cycle of firm enforcement begins, it will be clear that illegal immigration is not inevitable and that it indeed IS possible for a sovereign people to decide who should be in their country.

The Bush Administration is hoping for a very different outcome. Its officials on Friday repeatedly noted that because the Senate refused to pass the Comprehensive Amnesty, the Administration has no choice but finally begin enforcing the law and that that is going to cause a lot of companies to go out of business and be really tough on our economy.

It clear that the Administration hopes a few months of tough enforcement will convince people like you that we need massive new guest worker programs and legalization for the illegal aliens already here. Bush officials are hoping you will go for that deal because you will by then see that this Administration can be trusted to carry out enforcement to ensure that we don't get over-run by new waves of illegal immigration.

The stakes are high. But we are more than willing to see the Administration start this gambit because we believe workplace enforcement can prove to be incredibly successful ...

... and because we believe small citizen armies like all of you will be able to protect the enforcement while barring any new efforts at an amnesty.

We have serious concerns about the Administration's announcements about streamlining current temporary foreign worker programs. We are watching this very closely and will mobilize opposition if these proposals show that they are threatening the ability of American workers to obtain and keep jobs at reasonable wages and working conditions.

All of these new opportunities are a wonderful result of having defeated the Bush/Kennedy amnesty bill in the Senate on June 28.

You didn't just stop a terrible thing but set in motion a lot of new possibilities, many of them constructive.

One of the reasons I see so much possibility, is that we are aware of many really dedicated officials inside the Department of Homeland Security who have been itching to enforce immigration laws for a long time.

While the enforcement interest in the White House may be suspect, it is sincere among many of the people who have been asked to carry out the President's new initiatives.

ICE and Social Security Administration “No-Match” Letters

Every year, the Social Security Administration (SSA) informs thousands of employers via a “nomatch”
letter that certain employees’ names and corresponding Social Security numbers provided on Forms W-2 do not match SSA’s records.

Out of approximately 250 million wage reports the SSA
receives each year, as many as four percent belong to employees whose names and corresponding Social Security numbers do not match SSA’s records.

Through regulation, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is reiterating that employers remain accountable for the workers they hire and clarifying the steps employers should take to resolve mismatches identified in letters issued by SSA.

The DHS regulations provide guidance that will help employers comply with legal hiring requirements by outlining specific steps they should take under immigration law when they are notified that employees’ names or corresponding Social
Security numbers as provided on Forms W-2 do not match SSA records.

SSA is not changing its procedures for issuing employer no-match letters, and SSA guidance on how to correct Social Security records is unchanged.

However, no-match letters issued by the SSA for Tax Year 2006 will be accompanied by a letter from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) informing employers on how to respond to the employer no-match letter in a manner consistent with obligations under U.S. immigration laws.

There are many reasons for a mismatch between employer and SSA records, including transcription errors and name changes due to marriage that are not reported to SSA. Employers should not
assume that the mismatch is the result of any wrongdoing on the part of the employee. Moreover, an employer who takes action against an employee based on nothing more substantial than a mismatch letter may, in fact, violate the law.

The DHS regulations and the ICE letter describe with specificity what steps employers should take upon receipt of a no-match letter:

1) verifying within 30 days that the mismatch was not the result of a record-keeping error on the employer’s part;

2) requesting that the employee confirm the accuracy
of employment records;

3) asking the employee to resolve the issue with SSA;

4) if these steps lead to resolution of the problem, follow instructions on the no-match letter itself to correct information with SSA, and retain a record of the verification with SSA; and

5) where the information could not be corrected, complete a new I-9 form without using the questionable Social Security number and instead using documentation presented by the employee that conforms with the I-9 document identity requirements and includes a photograph and other biographic data. Employers unable to confirm employment through these procedures risk liability for violating the law by knowingly continuing to employ unauthorized persons.

This week, Nevada Governor Jim Gibbons (R) signed into law NRA-backed Assembly Bill 95 (AB95)--the “Emergency Powers Firearms Protection Act.” This new law will prevent a governmental entity or law enforcement agency from confiscating firearms from law-abiding citizens during a declared state of emergency.

AB95 will protect Nevadans from an event similar to the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina when residents of New Orleans were subject to door-to-door firearm confiscation at the direction of New Orleans police. “This law guarantees that the Second Amendment rights of all law-abiding Nevadans will never be violated during a time of emergency,” said NRA-ILA Executive Director Chris W. Cox. “The citizens of Nevada can be assured that they and their Constitutional freedoms will not suffer like those citizens of New Orleans in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.”

“NRA promised to fight to ensure that the gun confiscations we saw in New Orleans are never repeated anywhere in America, and we are devoted to fulfilling our vow,” said Cox. The NRA-backed measure received wide bipartisan support in the Nevada Legislature. According to the bill’s sponsor, Assemblywoman Valerie Weber (R-5), the Emergency Powers Firearms Protection Act “was a legislative priority for all of the co-sponsors and members to protect Nevada's gun owners.”

AB95 passed unanimously out of Assembly and Senate policy committees and off both floors. Since Hurricane Katrina, 18 other state legislatures passed measures similar to Nevada’s Emergency Powers Protection Act. Last fall, the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate passed a similar federal bill with broad, bipartisan support, which President Bush signed in October 2006.

Who better to keep our children safe then those highly educated responsible adults whom have already dedicated their life to the best interest of our children. Support legislation by politicians such as Nevada's Bob Beers that see this is a pivotal need in our public & private schools today.
Sure, they should have to go through some mandatory CCW and self-defense training; but obviously give them the option and the choice to carry and protect themselves and our children. Better still, since we know that it is not economically reasonable for most public and or private schools to hire more police and or security guards; although, it is exponentially more cost effective to pay for approved CCW and self-defense classes for those willing teachers and responsible adults 21 years of age or over; this is the obvious choice.
If just one or two teachers and or responsible adult students 21 or over was armed that tragic day at Virginia Tech; the outcome would have been much different and the loss of life, if any would have been a fraction of what it was...

if just one or two teachers or other students at Virginia Tech were armed that fateful day the death toll would have been no-where near what it was.

I think there should be an incentive (financial or otherwise) for teachers and students over the age of 21 to become proficiently trained in the carrying and use of a concealed weapon. Bob Beers from Nevada has had the right idea for a long time. it is not economically feasible for most public and or private schools to have more full-time police & or security officers.

It is however feasible for responsible adult citizens to be our brothers keepers & guardians of our minor children.

Not to mention that he and the other democrats, lefts and liberals in Washington whom hypocritically voted for the new US commander in Iraq General David Petraeus and say they support our troops but do not support the troop surge that General Petraeus laid out for them; and they supported, need to be voted out of office if not impeached in disgrace for their shameful attempts at defending our troops and failing to fully support them...

General Petraeus had no sooner got his 4th star, when Speaker Nancy Pelosi, John Murtha, Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, Jim Webb and other un-american, un-patriotic democrats started stabbing him in the back and attempting to set him up for failure before he got started...

Then we have Democrat Barack Obama's support for Democrat Speaker Pelosi's appointment of criminal Democrat William Jefferson to Homeland Security panel...

Remember Speaker Nancy Pelosi's statement to make this "the most honest, most open, and most ethical Congress in history."...

First she removes Democrat William Jefferson from the powerful tax committee because she feels that we can not trust an individual found with 90k in marked money in his freezer that he was caught red-handed taking on video tape...
Then she appoints him to the Homeland Security panel...

Democrat Speaker Nancy Pelosi is the one whose competence is in question here...

Don't get me wrong, I think Rudy is a great guy and his leadership of New York following 911 is admirable...
In addition, he has an educated position on the war in Iraq and the war on terrorism...

His positions on Homeland Security are outstanding...

But his positions on the critical issues of Gun Control, Abortion, Gay Marriages, Rights etc., force me to say no sale for Rudy Giuliani for President of the United States...

He is to left and liberal for me...

To briefly elaborate:
Rudy Giuliani on the issues:
Gun Control - He supports it.
Abortion - He is Pro Choice. (A life is not a choice in my opinion; I contend that only when the mothers life is in danger should a abortion be allowed).
Gay Marriages, rights etc. - He supports it. (Marriage is between a man and a woman in my opinion).
